"There’s such a diversity in W11 – it’s really the perfect neighbourhood," says German-born Eva-Maria Khan. "That’s why I named my product after it." Khan’s product? Maybe not what you might think. It’s a simple cashmere sweater. "It’s the perfect cashmere sweater, the essential item, just like this is the perfect area."
Cashmere knitwear
Kahn launched her product in 2004, having worked in fashion PR for years despite never really being interested in anything but cashmere knitwear. "I couldn’t care less about tailoring," she says, but sweaters were always her thing. So after her third child was born, she found herself in a position to start the collection she had always dreamed of launching. And thin, high quality cashmere suited her lifestyle: "you’re warm but never too hot - you can wear it to the sandpit in the morning as a layer, then with a smart skirt in the evening." The 19 styles she sells are what she calls "wardrobe builders" that can be worn throughout the week. "Such a precious material shouldn’t be made too quirky," she says.

Her select range of cashmere sweaters in a few muted colours have been selling well in a smattering of boutiques in London, Japan and Italy under the label ‘London W11’ for several years. But now she’s ditched the retailers to sell direct from her own website, lowering her prices by 40% and making the collection instantly available.

All London W11’s cashmereproducts are made in Scotland or Italy and the quality of the yarn is extremely high (though her prices are 15% lower than Brora’s). Now she sells 19 different styles, all simple yet flattering, with a v-neck proving the best seller. More styles and colours are planned, along with a extension on the theme of the perfect item – there may be t-shirts, bags and even shoes in the pipeline. Eva Maria Khan, founder of London W11, is passionate about luxury essential items, items which have a long term value. Having lived in America, Milan, Paris, Barcelona and London and worked for various international fashion houses Eva Maria perceived that the market lacked a versatile, essential but luxurious cashmere product.
