For Immediate Release
NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature Argentinean artist, Flavio Pellegrino, in The Substance of Abstraction. The exhibition is scheduled to run from June 4, 2011 through June 25, 2011 (opening reception: Thursday, June 9, 2011).
About the Artist
As Argentinean artist Flavio Pellegrino builds each of his abstract paintings with choppy, staccato strokes of a knife, he fills the surfaces with the essence of air and light. Working in oil paints, Pellegrino moves boldly across the canvas, creating a spiraling dance of color, texture and tone. He sees his body of work as a universe of color, with each piece a separate, swirling galaxy. As he presents his art to the world, he seeks communion and a shared vision with the observer. Occasionally hidden amongst the structure and chaos linger symbolic hints of the recognizable, as houses, castles and soaring birds in flight emerge, giving a sense of connection to the works. Pellegrino found his artistic voice over years of exploration and growth, allowing his conscious and subconscious mind to find a style sincere to himself that would allow him to communicate sensations, dreams and emotions in paint while touching the viewer’s soul.
Born in Rosario, Argentina, Flavio Pellegrino currently lives and works in New York City.
