Inaugural Race to Empower A Bold Community

MARIETTA, GA – March 3, 2010 –The YWCA of Northwest Georgia, Atlanta Beat Soccer Foundation, and Kennesaw State University today announced that the inaugural A Race to Empower a Bold Community 5k run/walk, a 1 mile fun run/walk, and a 1 mile Dog Run will take place on March, 13, 2010 in Kennesaw.

The race begins at 8 a.m. at BrandsMart USA - Kennesaw (Town Center), followed by the 1 Mile events beginning at 9:00 a.m. Visit www.theatlantabeat.com for more information or register online at www.active.com or any Big Peach Running Company location.

"We are pleased that the YWCA of Northwest Georgia is partnering with the Atlanta Beat and KSU Foundation for this inaugural event," said Holly Comer, YWCA CEO and executive director. "We look forward to helping to raise funds to provide continued programs and services for women and children affected by domestic violence and sexual assault."

The Empowerment 5K race provides the unique opportunity to support all three organizations’ goals of restoring the core values of young women and reinforcing the standards of health and wellness, strength, and continuing education. For the YWCA, this event is vital to be able to provide services to its clients who are victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Members of the Atlanta Beat Women's Professional Soccer team will make their first player appearance at the event. All participants receive a ticket voucher to an upcoming game in the 2010 inaugural season of the Atlanta Beat, a chance to run alongside the Atlanta Beat Women's Professional Soccer Players, and a commemorative t-shirt. Registration for the 5K timed event is $30 until 3/12/10, $35 thereafter; 5K un-timed event is $25 until 3/12/10, $30 thereafter; and for the 1 Mile Dog Run/Fun Run is $20 until 3/12/10, $25 thereafter. Runners may participate in both events in the Combo Run (5K + 1-mile) for $30 until 10/25; $35 thereafter. Non-runners can support the race as a Phantom Runner for $35, and shirts will be mailed following the race.

The Atlanta Beat Soccer Foundation is the charitable arm of Women’s Professional Soccer’s Atlanta Beat.
