New Legal Powers For Energy Coast
Added: 03/10/2010 - Angela Huck

New legal powers will be in force in West Cumbria from this week as the County’s largest law firm opens premises on Westlakes Science & Technology Park.

A core team of commercial solicitors from Burnetts is taking up residence in a suite of offices in the Samuel Lindow Building, alongside the firm’s long-term client the University of Central Lancashire. Their aim is to strengthen links with the business community in West Cumbria.

Head of Construction and Engineering, Jonathan Marshall is a director of the West Cumbria Business Cluster and is leading the West Cumbria team. He said, "West Cumbria is a dynamic and exciting opportunity for businesses in the region and we want to be at the heart of the action, supporting innovation, growth and economic regeneration."

UCLan's Dr Graham Baldwin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) said: "We are delighted that Burnetts have joined us in the Samuel Lindow building, a facility which is set to make a sizeable contribution to the local and regional economy. We know that in addition to our own specialist business support Burnetts will play an important role in helping us to incubate and support a range of aspiring new businesses over the next two years."

This latest expansion supplements Burnetts’ existing bases at Victoria Place and Rosehill in Carlisle and Newcastle.

The launch of Burnetts’ Energy Coast office was celebrated with a drinks reception on Tuesday 9th March at the Samuel Lindow Building attended by the more than 100 of the firm’s partners, clients and supporters.

To promote its presence in the area, legal experts from Burnetts will be hosting a series of free monthly legal briefings. The Law @ Lunchtime sessions will include advice on a range of business law issues such as employment, property, planning, construction and engineering as well as and commercial and corporate law. The events will take place from 12.30pm – 2.30pm with lunch provided at the Samuel Lindow Building.

The first session, "What makes a dismissal unfair" is on 6th April. Details of future events and photographs of the launch can be found at www.burnetts.co.uk

The Law @ Lunchtime briefings are free, but booking is essential. To reserve a place, call Emma Barnes on 01228 552222 or email events@burnetts.co.uk.
